How to read the map

This D-Day beaches map runs from west to east. That is also the order of the five beaches where the Allies landed on June 6, 1944: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. Utah and Omaha in the west were the American sector. Gold and Sword were British, with French commandos also coming ashore on Sword, and Juno was Canadian.

The pins show the D-Day sites that have their own pages on this site. The list under the map gives them in the same order: the Airborne Museum in Sainte-Mère-Église, the Utah Beach D-Day Museum, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery, the Arromanches D-Day Museum, the Juno Beach Centre, the Mémorial de Caen and Memorial Pegasus. Each name links to its attraction page. Pointe du Hoc sits on the cliffs between Utah and Omaha, and Arromanches is on the Gold sector.

A suggested order

With one day, choose one end of this Normandy D-Day map rather than trying to cover it all. For the American sector, start at the Airborne Museum. Then go on to the Utah Beach D-Day Museum, Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach, and finish at the Normandy American Cemetery. The American Battle Monuments Commission expects every visitor to the cemetery to pre-register from summer 2027. The One Day on the D-Day Beaches itinerary sets out a full day.

With two days, spend the first in the American sector and the second farther east. Visit the Arromanches D-Day Museum and the Juno Beach Centre, then the Mémorial de Caen, where you should allow 3-4 hours. Memorial Pegasus is closed from September 1, 2026, through January to May 2027, with no confirmed reopening date, so leave it out of your plans for now. Two Days in Bayeux and on the D-Day Beaches uses Bayeux as its base.

If you are not driving, the NOMAD Car D-Day Line bus runs from Bayeux to the main sites in July and August. See Normandy Without a Car for other options, or the D-Day Beaches Day Trip from Paris if you are coming from Paris.
